Overview

We are currently seeking a Configuration Management Specialist to ensuring the accuracy, validity, accountability and timely delivery of all project software and documentation.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Job Duties:

  • Knowledge in scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Perl.
  • Ability to automate repetitive tasks and processes.
  • Experience with server operating systems like Linux, Windows, or Unix.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Travis CI, or CircleCI.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document processes and communicate with team members.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve configuration issues.
  • Ability to manage complex configurations accurately and ensure consistency.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and project managers.
  • Understanding of change management processes to ensure controlled and documented changes.
  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations and processes.
  • Proficiency in managing and tracking changes to configurations using version control systems.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and the ability to implement secure configurations.
  • Manage and maintain configuration management of laboratory products and services to include hardware and software configurations, processes, procedures, documentation, and technical libraries.
  • Support laboratory Configuration Control Board (CCB) process to review, document, archive, and baseline laboratory hardware, software, and place under configuration management. Monitor and manage new and existing Configuration Change Requests (CCRs) for hardware, software, or configuration changes.
  • Review, maintain, and update processes, procedures, and work products that govern the operations of the laboratory. Initiate Document Change Requests (DCR) and support CM updates based on CCB and audit results.
  • Develop and update lab configuration and connectivity drawings to support laboratory events, asset upgrades, and future space planning. Utilize computer aided design software and commercial applications to develop and maintain (Visio, AutoCAD).
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to support laboratory operations and standards. Support core process areas with best practices and process improvement for technical services of the laboratories.
  • Support the Operations Material and Supply (OM&S) process for laboratory property and material inventory. Support government laboratory processes to procure and integrate new equipment and capability in support of the lab configuration. Assist government lab manager and purchasing agents in defining technical aspects and support documentation for material and components. Facilitate formal excess process of decommissioned assets in accordance with center guidelines.

Typical Working Conditions:

  • General office environment
  • Computer/Equipment lab.

 Essential Physical Tasks:

  • Potential to travel domestically 5-15% of the time
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs on an occasional basis
  • Ability to use a computer and mouse on a consistent basis

Written Communications:

  • Operates standard computer based business tools (including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel) effectively.
  • Independently generates documentation that presents ideas and/or information in a logical manner. Able to organize the information and use the best methods and/or formats for its delivery. 

Verbal Communications:

  • Demonstrates excellent clear and concise verbal communication skills.
  • Active communicator – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate.

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Two years of work experience in configuration management and/or administrative duties.

Customer Interface Activities:

  • Suitable inter-personnel and customer service skills required to interface with customers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the customer, NIWC Pacific Center's staff, and peer contractor personnel.

Project Management / Staff Supervision Tasks:

  • Follows Government, company, or project processes and approval methods.
  • Ability to follow clear established process and team priorities.

Work Schedule:   

  • 9/80
  • Must have ability to work within company and customer schedule requirements which may vary depending on criticality and necessity of a given task.
  • The ability to work non-standard work hours and schedules in support of project requirements.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required
  • STEM degree preferred 

Pay Range: $75,000.00 to $100,000.00 annually, DOE

 

U.S. Citizenship is required

 

Security Clearance:

Candidates must have an active Secret clearance OR  the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance, and will be subject to a US security background investigation (i.e. favorable background investigation / credit score). Additional eligibility requirements for access to various levels of classified information may also be required. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
